About National Museum of Royal Barges
Accessible by long-tail boats via Thonburi’s canals, the National Museum of Royal Barges displays a grand fleet of royal boats that were once in daily use by the monarchy. Today these exceptionally ornamented barges are used for impressive ceremonies. Decorated with religious symbolism, the biggest is over 45m long and requires a crew of 50 rowers, in addition to umbrella bearers, helmsmen, navigators, and a flag bearer, a rhythm keeper and a chanter.
