Rust de Winter Nature Reserve
Limpopo Province
Rust de Winter Reserve offers Gautengers a wonderful getaway within the proposed Dinokeng 'Big Five' Game Reserve and is en route to the Kruger National Park and the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve. And it’s just a one-hour drive from Gauteng’s major centres.
Rust de Winter is a popular spot for birders eager to tick off the 400 odd species of birds including numerous waterfowl. Look out for kudu, waterbuck, zebra, reedbuck, steenbuck, duiker, impala, Nyala, warthog, aardvark, bushpig, crocodile and shy otter.
One of the attractions of the reserve is Rust de Winter Dam, a playground and picnic spot for day-trippers, boaters and anglers. The diverse habitats range from woodlands to riverine forest and alluvial acacia veld. Facilities include a day visitors’ section, camping area and an overnight chalet.
