About Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge

Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge was originally built in the 1970s as a state enterprise, though former Batlokoa chief Wessels Mota built a stone hut for backpackers on the site in the 1950s. The lodge was gradually given over to the current King of the local Batlokoa community, Morena Mota (son of Wessels Mota), in the mid 90s. It was officially made a community asset by the state in 2000. Management challenges prompted the Traditional Council of the Batlokoa under their leader, Morena Mota, to enter into an agreement with Transfrontier Park Destinations (TFPD) in 2010 as management a

Truly an amazing to visit. The bungalow was very comfortable and the heated blankets came in handy. Food was excellent and the staff just too friendly. The walks are lovely, but the 4x4 drive up to Sentinel Peak real crazy. Enjoyed it though. Will definitely return.

The hotel backpackers is nice with a good view on the valley. Rooms are very basic, there is not even a small wardrobe. Communal kitchen is nice, but we didn't use it as the food in the restaurant was of outstanding quality, and definitely value for money. The matrasses are a bit hard, bur for the rest a very pleasant stay.

We stayed in the backpackers lodge, beds were comfortable and everything was super clean. We left early to go hiking so they gave us a packed meal which was much bigger than expected and delicious. The staff were all friendly and super helpful. And the views are beautiful.
