WITS END Self Catering Chalets, in the Central Drakensberg. Experience the peace and tranquility of the Drakensberg at Wits End, nestled below the twin peaks of Champagne Castle and Cathkin in the heart of the Champagne Valley. The resort, a two-hour drive from Durban and four hours from Johannesburg, is ideal for a weekend getaway or a longer, more leisurely stay and is situated in a malaria-free area. We encourage group bookings and can arrange various recreational activities. An all-weather road extends to our front gate and provides easy access to the many amenities of the area which include fine hotels, restaurants and golf courses of which the Champagne Sports Resort 18 hole championship course is a favourite amongst the golfing fraternity. All chalets have magnificent mountain views and are fully equipped with stoves, microwaves, DStv and braai (Barbeque) areas. The resort has a rock pool and Lapa alongside which is an outdoor braai (barbeque) area with a pizza oven and Mongolian braai ideal for group entertaining. The private nature trails on the property are a nature lover’s paradise passing through indigenous forest and mountain grasslands, with an abundance of flora and fauna. Our 10 acre dam is one of the largest in the area and is stocked with Natal yellow fish so guests can enjoy fly fishing as well as canoeing. Wits End is a stone's throw from the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park, one of only 7 sites world-wide awarded World Heritage status in 3 categories, for archaeology, vegetation and geology. This a wonderful area for hiking, swimming in the clean water of mountain streams, and discovering unique wild flowers and San rock art. The internationally acclaimed Drakensberg Boys Choir School is close to Wits End so guests may attend the weekly term-time concerts. The school's bi-annual music festivals are another attraction not to be missed.
