Nestled against the crags of Grants Hill, in one of the oldest streets in Bloemfontein, lies our architectural masterpiece designed by Irma Moerdijk. You may immediately have an image of a conservative structure atop a hill, as Irma’s father, Gerard, was the architect behind the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria. Our humble abode is almost the opposite though. The architect juxtaposed modern materials and a contemporary design on top of this ancient hill covered in savannah grasslands, shale, and dolerite. Sitting and debating the topic on our stoep, listening to the multiple birds and small animals in our nearby domain, our deduction is that Irma decided to play with light and space in moments of fairylike inspiration and the net result is what you will hopefully get to experience.
Welcome to Victorious on Whites Road.
Your room will be one of three inviting and very different experiences. Every effort will be made to make you feel comfortable.
The Boat Room sits atop the structure and as you put your head on your pillow at night, look out over the bow of the ship towards the imposing Naval Hill. Your bathroom is en-suite, and you will be treated to a calm and serene experience awaking in the arms of the giant Acacia tree outside your window.
The Wild Sex Room is just below the boat room and offers an impressive, though different view of Naval Hill, albeit from a lower perspective. Waking up in this room is also a delight as the eastern windows allow the early morning sun to filter in between the trees and you are treated to a view over the front lawn all the way down to the swimming pool. This room has an en-suite bathroom and also has the added benefit of a small kitchenette for longer staying guests.
Lastly the Tortoise Room lies on the western side of the house which overlooks the grandiose Grants Hill. A tiny gate in the garden allows guests to wander atop the hill and view the magnificent Free State sunsets or to simply meander through the private tortoise sanctuary set up and run within the confines of the city. We pack a picnic basket on request for guests wanting to enjoy sundowners and snacks atop this outcrop. The room has an en-suite bathroom, a small kitchenette, and its own separate entrance.
Breakfast is served either to your room or on our stone stoep below the overhang of our mini forest every morning. Experience the clean crisp air Bloemfontein has to offer and enjoy hearty Free State hospitality. There is ample secure parking for your vehicle at night. A fibre-enabled Wi-Fi service is also included in your stay.
