About Thonga Beach Lodge

Set on the pristine shores of the Maputaland coast, this luxury lodge is the ideal place to discover one of the last unspoiled and undeveloped wilderness beaches left on the African continent. Mabibi is a magical place of tranquil swimming bays and snorkeling reefs, coastal forests, grasslands, bush, shimmering lakes and exquisite sandy beaches. Its crystal clear, warm waters offer unparalleled snorkeling and fantastic offshore scuba diving.

Nestled in a secluded bay, Mabibi, on the Maputaland coast. Thonga Beach Lodge is situated in the heart of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, an internationally recognized World Heritage Site. It is the first private concession to have been granted by the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park Authority. 25 km North of Sodwana Bay in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

The lodge can be reached by 2-wheel drive vehicle until the last one hour, where we have a collection point. Guests are then transferred in open 4x4 vehicles on the forested dune roads to the lodge. There are two collection times from the 2-wheel drive parking: 12h00 or 15h00.

The following activities are available at an additional charge. Please note they are dependent on weather and availability: Scuba Diving, Open Ocean Experience, Turtle Tracking. From November to March, Mabibi Sea Spa offers a wealth of seaweed treatments, facials and massages. Please do contact us for further details on packages.

Safari: We offer an "ocean safari". A beach launch over the breakers into the open sea searching for dolphins, whales, turtles and any other magical marine creatures. Also offers a snorkeling exprience off a local reef.

Beach: Situated right on the pristine beaches of Mabibi. Magnificent snorkelling opportunities at low tide within strolling distance from the lodge. Ocean trips and scuba diving launch available from right infront of the lodge.

Spa: We have a fully equiped spa to cater for you.

Wedding Venues: Perfect beach wedding. Whether just you and your partner or the whole family - the lodge can plan a wedding to suit your barefoot requirements.

Family friendly: Enjoy family time on the beach, exploring the rock pools, fun in the pools as well as introductory courses to Scuba available to children. Beach games as well as board games are available. Child minding available.

Romantic: The soft sand and sounds of the sea provide the most romantic setting in nature. Take romantic walks and a picnic on an endless pristine wilderness beach, ernjoy spa treatments or perhaps dinner overlooking the ocean.

Covid Safety Approved: We adher to the highest levels of sanitisation with approved cleaning products in all areas of the lodge. All areas are sanitized daily as well as any vehicles or activity craft. There are sanitizers available for guests throughout the property.
