About The Trout Pod

Set on a cliff in the Witzenberg overlooking the Olifants River, this amazing off-the-grid Trout Pod offers fly fishermen the dream destination to fish for brown trout in the Western Cape. The cosy cottage can sleep four people and comprises two bedrooms furnished with double beds, and en-suite bathrooms with showers and toilets. For convenience, Enchantrix Biodegradable Body and Hair wash, linen and bath towels, as well as toilet paper, are provided. Guests please need to bring their own swimming towels. Please note, the toilets run on a septic tank system and hot water is provide

Important Information

* Please drive slowly on the dusty road, maximum of 35 km/ph, particularly where there are orchards. These roads can be very busy and dangerous if one drives too fast, and the dust, apart from damaging crops, makes life very unpleasant for the farmers.
* There is limited cellphone reception at the cottage.
* Vodacom reception is available at the Eastern edge of the farm yard at the store.
Very limited MTN is also available.
* If the owners of the property are at the dam, please respect their privacy and visit another time.
* Please note that a maximum number of 4 people can be accommodated.
* The toilets run on a septic tank system. Please do not throw foreign objects in the toilet bowl.
* Two bags of wood are supplied per night. There is additional wood available at the store.
* Please report any breakages.
* The lights and fridge are powered by batteries which are charged by solar power.
* Please use the lights only when necessary in order to conserve the battery level, especially when there is cloud cover or poor weather.
* Guests please need to bring their own swimming towels. Linen, blankets, and towels are not allowed outside.
* Hot water and the stove is powered by gas, which will be on and checked prior to arrival.
* The geyser temperature is preset and will switch on when the hot water tap is opened. Due tothe water being gravity fed, the pressure is not always ideal. As such, please note that ifthere is more than one shower in operation at any time, this may affect the temperature.
* If you are going off the beaten track, never go alone! Always have someone with you, so that in the event of an accident, there is someone to assist/get help.
* Please ensure that young children are attended to at all times.
* Snakes are out and about, so please tread carefully. Please note, that snakes like to hideunder the deck, and to advise children not to go under the deck.
* The Trout Pod is situated in a wilderness area and guests are asked to use caution at all times.
* All persons who use the premises, facilities and river do so entirely at their own risk. The owner, trustees, beneficiaries, employees, officers and/or agents will not be responsible for any causes of action, claims, damage, costs, loss, injury or death of any person on the property or their possessions and are hereby fully indemnified. The indemnity applies equally to minor children under the supervision and control of persons using these premises, their facilities and the river.Please ensure:
* That all windows and doors are closed and locked when you leave. Baboons generally won’t come around when there are people staying in the house.
* That the refuse is secured in the bin next to the stone room in the garden; baboons and mongooses will tear open any bags left in the open.
Pets are welcome but please note:* Owners please need to clean up after pets and do not just flick it into the bush.
* Pets are not allowed on the furniture, please bring your own pet beds and bedding.
Guests are welcome to fish but please note:* Only fly-fishing is allowed
* Only barbless hooks are used
* Fishing is on a catch-and-release basis only.Fires are a real threat and guests are asked to ensure that:
* Fires are not lit anywhere else but in the designated fireplaces.
* The fire is never left unattended.
* The fire is properly extinguished after use.
* Buckets of water are on hand at the braai at all times.
* The hose is connected to the outside tap as a precaution.
