Game drives within Tarangire National Park are a year-round wildlife spectacle. The river flows through the park and is a magnet for wildlife, especially large populations of elephant. The lodge was the first to be built in the park. Since 1985, it has been owned and managed by the Simonson family, who have added a very personal touch. At the heart of the lodge are the impressively high thatched roofs of the lounge and dining area. The open design allows for an uninterrupted landscape view and captures the cooling breeze. Between game viewing excursions, relax in our large, comfortable lounge. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool or browse in the Baobab Boutique.
Accommodation choices are either a traditional canvas tent or a roomy stone bungalow, with all rooms having a direct valley view.
Our tents are sturdy and comfortable, built on a solid base, with a thatched roof and veranda, screened windows with large curtains and en-suite bathrooms with solar-heated showers. All our tents have been recently refurbished with new textiles and ten tents have double beds.
Our five bungalows are built from local stone in the circular style of Maasai huts. The thick walls, large windows and thatched roofs ensure that they remain cool. We have five bungalows suited as triples or family units. All the beds have mosquito nets. Our spacious en-suite bathrooms include a large shower and plenty of solar heated water. Each bungalow has a shaded veranda allowing for comfortable viewing of a large water hole.
Enjoy our international homestyle safari cuisine in our spacious, open-air dining room. All of our fruit and vegetables are freshly grown at Simba Farm, on West Kilimanjaro. Our breakfast buffet includes a healthy spread that suits every taste and an eager cook is ready to prepare eggs or pancakes in front of you. Tanzanian tea and coffee with our signature cinnamon rolls are brought to your table. Lunch is buffet-style with a varied selection of soups, salads, hot and cold dishes. Pastry or fruit salad compliments every meal. A three course dinner by candlelight, along with a wide selection of wine, is the ideal way to end your day.
Take a refreshing dip in our inviting outdoor pool. Children may also enjoy the splash pool in the same vicinity. The Baobab Boutique is our shop with gifts for all ages. Most of the smaller items and textiles sponsor and support local women throughout Tanzania.
Our lounge couches and coffee tables are all individually handcrafted from recycled hardwood from old beached dhows on the Tanzanian coast. We invite you to make yourself comfortable and enjoy a book or newspaper from our book exchange along with a refreshing drink. Coffee and Tea is complimentary all day long. Our bar offers a wide variety of spirits and cocktails as well as many local beers and wines. Wireless internet is available in the main lounge and charges are applicable.
