About Swazi Village Home Stay

Swazi Village Home Stay offers an opportunity for travellers to get away from urban life and discover the local culture of the Swazi people. Guests can spend the night in the rural village of KaPhunga in Swaziland. This is not just accommodation, but also an experience. Our Home Stay is located right in the middle of the Swazi community about 55 km away from Manzini, our nearest town. This is the village where people are still living a basic, farming lifestyle to sustain themselves.

While you are here you will be living in your own compound rather than with the family; this is to ensure that both the community and the guests have privacy. You will sleep on the floor in a traditional Swazi hut which has been made very comfortable.

When booking at Swazi Village Home Stay, we offer Swazi-style accommodation in traditional Swazi beehive huts on grass mats. We will provide mattresses on request. Guests need to bring their own sleeping bags and warm clothes. You will stay in the village and enjoy Swazi meals prepared by the villagers. Although you will not be eating with the families, there will be some members of the community coming around to have dinner together.

We are busy constructing outside showers overlooking the rocks. The toilet is a pit latrine, a clean hole dug on the ground, and it is not a flushing toilet.

Those who want to can also get themselves involved by helping with the family duties and playing with the kids, depending on the time of the year. There is an opportunity to visit the local families and schools. Guests can bring supplies to help the community and local school-like pencils, books or toys for the children. There are also possibilities for teaching for interested travellers.

The main focus is to introduce visitors to the real people of Swaziland. Here, you will not be introduced to a show as this is the normal way of life and you will be taken behind the scenes to experience and enjoy the rich culture and understand the rural community.

During the stay, guests can enjoy hiking and mountain biking and spectacular views. In the evenings, sit around the fire while listening to stories from the elders.
