Nestled around a secluded cove on the Sangilo peninsula, Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge provides an idyllic escape to the lake in northern Malawi. This is a place where good food, a friendly bar and stunning scenery can be enjoyed in peace, along with the enchanting secret beach, unique rock caves and crystal clear waters.
The tastefully furnished cliff-top chalets, some with en-suite bathrooms, provide a unique view from the peninsula to Chilumba Island and across Lake Malawi to the magnificent Livingstonia Mountain range in Tanzania. For campers we have comfortable sites with showers and toilet blocks in secure surroundings.
On the beach there is an outdoor restaurant deck with an open-air kitchen and access to a well-stocked bar with cold drinks. Fresh fish are brought in daily by fishermen in dugout canoes and frequently appear on the simple, carefully prepared, menu.
Fishermen, swimmers and snorkelers will love the warm waters of Lake Malawi, with its amazing variety of fish. We have three boats for hire;a catamaran for sailors, a dinghy with outboard and a power boat for fishing trips, water skiing or cruises. For 4x4 and bike lovers, there are plenty of off-road opportunities locally, as well as a vehicle pit and plenty of mechanical know-how at our workshop.
Sangilo Sanctuary Lodge has introduced the first all-terrain quad bikes in Malawi to give visitors the freedom to explore the natural beauty of the surroundings from a different perspective. We also have a pair of mountain bikes for hire. Sangilo Peninsula has stunning views and pleasant walks and we can arrange visits to the local witchdoctor for those interested in traditional medicine.
The Sanctuary is run on eco-friendly principles; power is provided by solar panels and inverters providing lights, music and 240V sockets for guests' needs. Air-conditioning is provided through the careful planning of buildings and windows to make the most of lake breezes. There is cell phone coverage should you really feel the need to communicate with the outside world.
We are committed to making your stay as enjoyable and relaxing as possible at a price that won't strain your budget.
