Riverbend on Komati is a private, 8-sleeper guest house nestled in the heart of Komati Gorge Wildlife & Fly-fishing Reserve, a 2500-hectare nature reserve with 12 km of the Komati River running through it. Positioned on the top of a gorge, this luxury accommodation offers spectacular 360-degree views of the Komati River and the northern Drakensberg mountains, and is washed in the sound of the water rushing over the weir below.

The house has four bedrooms: two queen en-suite rooms, another queen room, and one with twin beds, each offering magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. One queen room is set slightly apart from the main house and is self-contained, with its own full bathroom and fireplace. There are two full bathrooms in the main house, a fully equipped kitchen with a 6-plate stove, a breakfast nook and scullery, an open-plan dining area, a lounge with fireplace, and a covered patio with a braai area. A cosy nook at the back of the house is perfect for afternoon tea, while a fire pit overlooking the river sets the scene for evening bonfires. The house will soon be equipped with solar power and is pet-friendly.

Riverbend is fully equipped with a gas stove and oven, pressure cooker, coffee machine, fridge, dishwasher, and washing machine for your convenience.

Riverbend on Komati is a sought-after destination for keen fly-fishermen, with a hot spot for Yellowfish located directly below the house at the weir. It is also just a short walk or drive from Komati Gorge Lodge, allowing guests access to the lodge’s facilities. The lodge features a fully licensed restaurant and pub — ideal if you don’t feel like cooking — as well as a swimming pool for guest use.

Activities on the reserve include fly-fishing, fishing in the river (with two species of Yellowfish, as well as Bass and Barbel), hiking trails, waterfalls, wild swimming, picnics, horse riding, birding, game drives, and a spa. Booking with your host is essential.
