About Oakdene Guest House
Oakdene Guest House is situated in the centre of historic Oudtshoorn and captures all the character and heritage of a bygone era - the ostrich feather boom. This charming Victorian home is one of the oldest houses in Oudtshoorn and dates back to 1853. Oakdene was declared a national monument in 1988.
The exterior of the house has been preserved and the main road actually narrows close to Oakdene to preserve the last remaining piece of the original open water lead-lined furrow which ran through Oudtshoorn in the old days.
Oakdene has six spacious en-suite bedrooms with remote controlled air- conditioning, TVs with M-Net, hairdryers, tea trays, telephones, electric blankets in winter and other amenities to make your stay a pleasant one. There is a lush garden and swimming pool to enjoy Oudtshoorn’s sunny days.
Breakfasts are served in the farm kitchen or outside on the patio facing the garden. The tables are decorated with Lizza’s hand painted tablecloths and cutlery. We offer safe under-cover parking on the premises and we look forward to welcoming you.
Oakdene is sheltered under oak trees in the centre of Oudtshoorn, on the main tourist route. The guest house is within walking distance of the town centre and well-known restaurants to enjoy local wines and delicious ostrich steaks. Oakdene has been artistically renovated and decorated with earthy colours and cottage furniture by owner, Lizza Retief.
