Mbumbulu Bush Camp offers a unique experience for the outdoor camping fanatics, where guests can enjoy the ultimate off-road experience with their 4x4, trailer or caravan. We are situated in the North-eastern part of KwaZulu-Natal, between Sodwana Bay and Kosi Bay in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park near Lake Sibaya.
Accommodation is offered in 5 cottages and 23 off-the-grid camp sites. You are welcome to bring your own solar panels or small generator with an extention cord of at least 30m to reach the sun.
Each cottage is equipped with a small kitchen, small fridge/freezer for self-catering and has access to a braai area. 220v electricity is supplied by solar power. Please no hair dryers, electric kettles etc.
Our shady camp sites have central braai and ablution facilities. We are working towards camp sites with their own private ablution facilities in the near future.
Guests are required to bring their own flash lights and camping lights, as the solar flood lights may not be adequate for their needs. Guests have access to secure parking.
Mbumbulu is right in the middle of Kosi Bay and Sodwana Bay, near all the prestine beaches such as Sodwana Bay, 9 Mile Beach, Mabibi, Island Rock, Lala Nek, Rocktail Bay, Black Rock, Banga Nek and Kosi Bay mouth. This makes Mbumbulu the IDEAL BASE CAMP to visit all the beaches.
The Isimangoliso beaches offer good fishing and snorkelling. Lala Nek is reconned as one of the top ten snorkeling reefs in the world.
Turtle tours and fishing trips on the Kosi Bay lakes can be arranged.
The 12 km scenic route to Lake Sibaya leads to the ideal spot to enjoy a refreshing sundowner. Lake Sibaya is tucked against forested coastal dunes, parallel to iSimangaliso’s coastline.
The Tembe Elephant Park is 48 km’s away from us and also a hidden gem in the area.
Most of the beaches require an Isimangaliso permit to enter. The permit office is 6km from the camp.
The camp is situated right in the centre of all the beaches Isimangaliso offers, from Sodwana Bay to Kosi Bay. Just the drive from the Bush Camp to the various beaches is a memorable experience on its own.
Sodwana Bay – Is known for deep-sea fishing, fishing competitions, diving camps and pristine beaches.
9 Mile Beach – quite a challenging 4x4 drive over the dune, separating the ocean and Lake Sibaya, but worth the drive. 9 Miles is highly recommended.
From Mbumbulu Bushcamp it is a day trip. Pack your happy box, charcoal, braai and spend your day driving/exploring Lake Sibya working your way to 9 Miles. 9 Miles offers you the best view over the ocean, set up your gazebo for the day. Low tide you can fish, spearfish, snorkel or just have a nice time on the beach.
This is an Africa that tourists seldom see, where an abundance of African elephants, game and rare species live in an environment unchanged by time.
