Macachula Beach Camp is an ideal getaway for self-catering, camping, 4x4 and fishing enthusiasts who enjoy adventure, the outdoors and the sea. We are situated on four hectares of a secluded portion of the northern bank of the Pomene Lagoon, 55 km from Massinga. The sea and endless white beaches are 200 m from the camp, directly across the lagoon. The mangrove swamps are easily accessible by boat and can be navigated up to 5 km inland at high tide. The lodge consists of self catering Chalets with en-suite bedrooms and kitchen / lounge entertainment areas. Mosquito nets, linen and towels are provided. Solar lighting is provided but guests are advised to bring their own small generators or dual battery systems for camping fridges.Camping sites are situated under the trees overlooking the lagoon. A camping baracca with solar powered lights and sockets is within 10m of the sea.The camp has a permanent security guard and is fully serviced. Martin, the camp manager, is also based at the camp and will arrange freshly baked Portuguese rolls, fresh vegetables, firewood, and fresh seafood upon request at a reasonable additional charge. Campers must be fully self-sufficient and have access to the ablution block. Water is pumped from the nearby mangrove river and is generally drinkable, especially if used for tea and coffee and cooking. Guests, however, may prefer to bring their own drinking water. The last 5 km of the sand road from Massinga is sandy in parts, especially in dry weather and you will require a 4 X4 to access the lodge. However, this is all part of the adventure and the view of the lagoon and sea from the top of the hill when you arrive is well worth it. Please be aware that Pomene is a malaria area and that you are required to take the necessary precautions, prophylactics, and mosquito coils, citronella candles and the like.Paradise Lodge, located within a 10-minute walk along the lagoon, offers a pub, a restaurant and deep sea fishing charters, scuba diving and snorkelling, fishing permits and ice . Please note that a detailed information and direction document will be forwarded to guests with confirmed bookings. This is particularly useful if you are a first time traveller in Mozambique or visitor to the Pomene region, and describes useful stop-over points, shopping tips, detailed directions, a Maputo bypass short cut, and what to bring.
