About Fountain Baths Guest House

Nestled at the foot of the breathtaking Mkonjwa Mountain Range in the quaint mining town of Barberton, you’ll find Fountain Baths Guesthouse. Built in 1884 as a bathhouse for gold diggers in the area, it boasts the oldest swimming pool in the old Transvaal. Today, Fountain Baths still revives the senses as a welcome retreat for travellers exploring this history-rich part of South Africa. Fountain Baths is perfectly situated within walking distance from town. Its garden extends to the very foot of the mountain. Majestic trees and lush vegetation make this a birder’s paradise. Our spacious self catering accommodation was well appointed and had lovely decor and beautiful touches. The large kitchen was well equipped. We enjoyed our meals on the little patio with a view to the lush gardens and listened to the sounds of numerous different birds. The guesthouse is close to all places of interest on the history trail. Many thanks to our hosts for the interesting conversation... Read more

Nic and his wife have only recently taken over and seem to be working hard to create a pleasant experience. A little more attention to small detail such as bathroom plug that let the water out, a shower cable with a kink and bigger towels would help but overall very pleasant stay for a weekend. Would definitely try them again

We had a great overnight experience at Fountain Baths Guest House in Barberton and will recommend this place to anybody without reserve. Beautiful garden and excellent facilities; right up against the mountain. The history of the area is of course very interesting and the fact that some of the oldest rock formations in the world are right there, is a plus. It is really worth a visit.

History isn't everybody's cuppa, but almost every place in Barberton just oozes it. Staying in a place as old as Fountain Baths Guest House where the owner clearly loves the place was a pleasant experience. If you don't need to be entertained or live in the ritz this is a great choice. The breakfast was well prepared and we feel that we definitely got our money's worth.
