Elundini Backpackers is not like most backpackers. We are almost completely of the grid and depend mostly on renewable energy. Electricity is generated from our solar panels. Solar geysers and our 'donkey' are warming up our water. Rain water is harvested from the roof and stored in tanks. We also use rain water for drinking. We do not have flushing toilets but use compost toilets instead. All water is recycled.
Community development is high on our priority list. A successful bee project has been established and locally produced honey is sold at the backpackers. For years we support the local pre-school and a wood work project will start soon. It's all about creating jobs, jobs and jobs.
Accommodation is offered in outside rondavels, which are warm in winter and cool and summer. There are also camping facilities. There are no electrical plugs in the rooms, but you can charge phones and laptop in the main lounge. All of the rooms share a clean ablution block next to the main building, which is a common area with a bar, lounge and a self-catering kitchen. Guests are welcome to make use of the self-catering kitchen or they can join us for meals. A basic breakfast and lunch is available and a set menu is available for dinner every night.
