Elsamere is the former home of the Adamsons at the shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya. It is a nature lovers’ paradise with a great variety of bird life, wildlife and splendid flora. Elsamere Conservation was established by the Elsa Trust of the ‘Born Free’ fame. Its aim is to raise funds to support conservation through its field study centre.
The Adamson's devoted their lives to wildlife conservation and Elsamere carries on their work. Many of Joy's paintings adorn the walls of the main house and the small museum displays a range of interesting memorabilia. The Landrover in which George was shot as he drove from his camp in Kora National Park to rescue a guest who had been captured by Somali bandits, is on view in the garden.
Visitors to Elsamere are accommodated in four cottages, all having verandas with a lake view and en-suite facilities. Accommodation at Elsamere ensures that you have a truly serene environment ideal for relaxing outside on the lawns or within the confines of your cottage, or just enjoying a good read. Each cottage has an en-suite bathroom, spacious and warm interior, with a veranda providing you with views of Lake Naivasha. Day visitors are also welcome and can browse the museum and shop as well as enjoying an alfresco lunch and what many regard as the best afternoon tea in the whole of Kenya.
Meals are prepared by expert and experienced chefs and served on the veranda of the main house. Where possible, local produce is used by our chefs and aim to cater for any dietary needs of our guests.
Elsamere prides itself on its resident black and white colobus monkeys, hippo, zebra, and eland which frequent the centre. Guided nature walks are available around the compound to see birds and wildlife. Elsamere also serves as a central point from which you can visit local attractions like Nakuru National Park, Hells Gate National Park, or hike to Mount Longonot. Crater Lake is also close by.
Elsamere is a bird watcher’s paradise with over 200 bird species. You will have a chance to spot the African fish eagle hunting while on a boat ride around the lake.
