What our abode has to offer is a view unsurpassed – Drakenzicht mountain cottage is situated on 50 acres of breathtaking Drakensberg beauty. The uKhahlamba – Drakensberg Mountains is a World Heritage Site and our farm house has been nestling peacefully at the foot of the Central Berg for more than five decades.

The accommodation at Drakenzicht has a modest country atmosphere – close to Champagne Sports Resort and the Drakensberg Sun Hotel and about 10km away from Champagne Castle Hotel.

Come tread more than 3km of the cleared trails through our meadows. Benches dot the landscape overlooking a gorge and the valley below, with Giants Castle, Injasuthi, Champagne Castle and Cleft Peak all in plain view. The garden is lush and bird life abundant. Vervet monkeys, birds of prey, bushbuck and even the endangered ground hornbill might surprise you on your lazy afternoon stroll.

Drakenzicht cottage has three double bedrooms (2 rooms with double beds and one with 2 single beds) and a fourth outside room with two bunkbeds. A sleeper couch in one of the double rooms provides extra sleeping space. The main bedroom’s ensuite bathroom is newly fitted and the cottage’s central bathroom was also recently refurbished.

The farmhouse kitchen is equipped with all the necessary self-catering amenities, like a stove/oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils and an automatic washing machine.

The open plan lounge and dining area has a TV and satellite dish, with DSTv activated on request.

Drakenzicht’s star feature is the lovely covered verandah which serves as entertainment area with a generous wooden table seating ten and an equally generous view of the mountainous horizon.

The open braai facility on the outskirt of the elevated property shares this sweeping panorama.

Drakenzicht self-catering retreat is 27km from Winterton on the R600 – a well-maintained tarred road – and approximately 2km from Champagne Sports Resort. The house is perfectly positioned to explore the numerous hiking and mountain bike routes of the Central Drakensberg, as well as its various golf courses and horse riding opportunities.
