Enjoy romantic sundowners or twilight dinners on your veranda with the astonishing landscape views of the dense forest. The lodge is located in northern Tanzania and set a 10 km scenic drive away from the main road leading from the bustling commercial centre of Karatu to the famous Ngorongoro Crater.
Crater Forest Tented Camp offers 15 large tented rooms with mosquito nets under a thatch roof. Bathrooms are en-suite with showers, flush toilets, washbasins, soap, towels and bottled water. All of the rooms are on platforms with magnificent views over the Ngorongoro Forest and complementary coffee and tea are served on the veranda in the morning. For those chilly upland nights, guests can enjoy the warmth of an African-style fire pot in the small lounge area. Wake up to the sounds of the awakening forest as a night full of nocturnal wildlife activities gives away to mistily rising sunlight.
With a fairy tale setup, the evenings are lit with traditional hurricane lamps in the bar, restaurant and along the paths and tents. The restaurant and bar serves an excellent mix of African and international cuisine and fresh local vegetables. Lunch boxes are available on request. The lodge also has a communal lounge and a curio shop.
The area is excellent for mountain biking and the lodge has developed exciting trails to explore. The Maasai guides are more than happy to show you around the area, to tell you about their culture and to share their knowledge of local wildlife and vegetation with you. Guests can go on forest walks and the lodge is also part of a coffee farm where a guided tour can be organised as an interesting change after all the wildlife viewing. See how coffee is grown, harvested and processed at the coffee factory on the estate and have a sip of the freshly produced arabica coffee.
Watch wildlife roaming through the forest, hear the lions roar and listen to the magical sounds of the tropical night. It will be an experience you will never forget.
