Cabana de Floresta is a privately owned cottage built on one of only 10 sites within the privately owned Wakene Estate. Access to this estate is restricted by a security controlled boom gate. It is situated at the edge of the estate and is totally isolated from any other lodge, providing absolute privacy, allowing guests to enjoy the true bush experience with a sea view! Wakene Estate is situated on a remote beach halfway between Ponta Malongane and Ponta Mamoli. Approximately 500m north of Wakene is Fredrico which is a lesser known protected snorkeling area with a reef that extends to the shore line to form a large marine water world. Numerous marine and terrestrial creatures frequently visiting the Wakene beach and coastal forest including Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles. The turtles breed prolifically along the coast with egg laying at night from the end of November till February and hatching 58 days later. A walk after dark with a good torch with a red filter (as not to disturb the turtles) often yields rewarding results. This is a marine protected area and common sense should prevail. Sliding down the dunes or interfering with the turtles attracts large fines. This wooden structured cottage is situated on the 100m high water mark in the dune forest. The cottage is a 500 metre walk from the beach. Accommodation at the cottage comprises of a central living area which includes a lounge, dining, fully equipped kitchen with a double en-suite bedroom on each side and a large deck in front of the cottage for relaxing while watching the sunset over the bush. Ceiling fans are fitted in the bedrooms, kitchen and lounge. The cottage can accommodate 4-6 people. There is a sleeper couch in the living area that becomes a full double bed when opened. The kitchen has been fitted with the necessary cutlery and crockery as well as a 5 plate gas burner, microwave with a grill function and a large fridge/freezer. Braai facilities include a portable braai which can be used on the open deck with a pool. All linen and towels are supplied. Beach towels are not provided. All cleaning materials and toilet paper are provided. The cottage is in walking distance to the beach which offers rock pools, safe swimming snorkeling. The beach is ideal for scuba diving, fishing, kite surfing, walking and jogging. Southern Mozambique is known for its abundant bird life especially the fish eagles. Birding is great in the dune forest area or around the fresh water lakes behind the dunes. The area consisting of long and uninterrupted stretches of white sand beaches, lofty sandy dunes, coastal forests, inland floodplains and numerous lakes with accompanying marshlands welcome you in true Mozambican style. The unspoiled beauty of the blue sea, golden beaches and lush coastal vegetation set the scene for memorable "fun in the sun" holidays. There is a walkway to the beach. Frederico is a great walk just 2km north with wonderful snorkeling and spear-fishing opportunities. The reef starts in front of the walkway and dolphins can be seen regularly off the reef feeding and playing. Swimming with the dolphins can be organized with specialised boat charters in Ponta Do Ouro or Ponta Malongane. Fishing from the beach is successful with both bait and lure including dropshot (no fishing license is necessary). Ski boat fisherman and Jetskis should launch from the approved sites of Ponta Mamoli, Ponta Malongane or Ponta do Ouro after obtaining licenses from the Maritime officer in Ponta do Ouro. Launching of kayaks is allowed anywhere along the coast line. WHAT TO BRING - Beach Towels - Drinking Water - Beach Equipment - DSTV decoder and smart card.
