Safety:
BRACKENHILLS is the ideal getaway to escape the busy work life and like anywhere that is in the wild, there are dangerous animals, reptiles and insects to be aware of. Puff Adder snakes can be found in the rocky grassland areas and will generally avoid humans, however, it is advised that you wear long trousers (or gaiters) and have a walking stick at hand when hiking through the grasslands. Scorpions often hide under rocks and logs, so take care when lifting rocks or other objects.
The fencing on the Reserve is there for your safety and is mostly electrified to contain wild animals such as African Buffalo, which may be dangerous and should be treated with respect. Please do not touch or attempt to climb the fences and ensure that children are accompanied by a responsible adult when approaching any fenced area.
General:
All facilities within the lodge camp area are for your shared pleasure whilst you are with us. Nevertheless this is an active working Conservation Reserve and all workshops and sheds are strictly out of bounds. Please make sure you (and any children) do not go beyond these areas.
All bathrooms and toilets are septic tank systems so we ask that you do not dispose of anything other than toilet paper in the system. Everything else should be disposed of in the waste bins provided.
Whenever you encounter animals, please do let us know when, where and what you saw; this will help us in keeping track of animal movements on the Reserve.
The bordering Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve Trails can be accessed at the Cape Nature day rate of R40 per person per day
