About
Rocherpan Nature Reserve
Western Cape
Rocherpan Nature Reserve is situated on the Cape West Coast, with a variety of landscapes to explore. There is a lovey beach to relax on and spot black oystercatchers and different types of fish.
The best time to visit the reserve is during spring, when the wild flowers are in full bloom. The Papkuils River runs through the reserve and is over six kilometres long.
Day visitors can get their self-issue permits at the small reserve office which is 100m up the road.
Rocherpan also offers self-catering accommodation next to the pan, with wondrous views of the Piketberg, or at the top of a dune on the northern side of the reserve.
Visitors can enjoy birdwatching for hours on end as the reserve is the perfect habitat for a variety of birds, including pelicans and flamingos. Smaller mammals to look out for are duiker, water mongoose, and African wild cat. You can also walk pretty much anywhere in the reserve and observe the serene, pristine surroundings of the Overberg mountain range.
