Robertson is known as the small town with a big heart. Located in the shadow of the majestic Langeberg mountains with the Breede River as its life blood, Robertson is the western gateway to The Heart of Route 62, only 1 and a half hours leisurely drive from Cape Town.

With 150 years of history, Robertson has grown into one of the most attractive Cape Winelands towns. Victorian buildings, jacaranda-lined streets, rose lined vineyards, columns of red and yellow cannas as well as bright bougainvilleas all form the back drop to this delightful town.

The region may be best known for its wines but the variety of attractions, activities, accommodation, and culinary delights on offer - combined with spectacular scenery and the warm hospitality of the people, makes it a superb getaway.

In one of the most beautiful valleys in South Africa, Robertson is surrounded by the Langeberg Mountains and needs to be visited for the peacefulness of its valleys and the beauty of its green vineyards.

Situated along Route 62 (reputedly the longest wine route in the world) in the Cape Winelands, the Robertson Valley Wine Route is officially recognized, and its limestone rich soils and diversity of terroir produce world class wines. Not only are the wines full of character, but so are the winemakers; they love what they do and it shows. Brandy tastings and tours are also possible at the Klipdrift distillery.

Olives are grown and processed locally and Robertson's farm stalls overflow with fresh produce, dried fruit, homemade breads, jams and preserves. Combine olive tasting with some cheese tasting and you'll spoiled for choice. The area is also becoming one of the pioneering areas for organic farm products. Stop off at Affie Plaas Farm Stall for wine at cellar prices and great gifts for the home.

Get outdoors and relax on one of the popular river boat cruises, go on a game drive or explore the hiking trails in the Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve. Wander around the spectacular cactus gardens at the Sheilam Cacti and Succulent Garden or explore the extensive gardens, mazes and the labyrinth at Soekershof Private Maze and Botanical Garden.

Biking, canoeing, river rafting and horse riding are popular activities, while Bird's Paradise is great for the kids with birds from Central America, Africa and Asia, as well as monkeys, crocodiles and a play park.

No matter what time of the year, Robertson offers a superb quality of life. Vineyards and orchards stretch from outlying farmlands into the very heart of the town. Enjoy living with wine ,fruit, horses, colourful characters and clean country air as everyday components of life.

Amazing annual events to look out for are the Robertson Wacky Wine Weekend, Robertson Slow and Robertson Wine-on-the-River.
