About Port Nolloth Lighthouse and Weather Station

Meet the local lighthouse keeper who speaks the language of old sailors. Hear about the treacherous channel through the outer “bar” that boats have to navigate through to get into the sheltered shipping channel. Many have tried to make it through when the “bar” was closed and paid the price with sunken boats and lost lives. The lighthouse complex also hosts the local weather station with all the intricate instrumentation and computers associated with it.
