About Kitch Kombuis

Kitch Kombuis in Muizenberg Village is owned by local personality, passionate restauranteur and people person, Derek Harrison. Everything that Derek ploughs his efforts into seems to be infused with his personal brand of magic, from the deliciously different smoothie selection, through to the furniture he’s chosen to decorate his new restaurant with. Not only is Kitch Kombuis a coffee shop with a difference, everything inside is for sale, not excluding the very table you’re seated at.

Taking its inspiration from European coffee stations, the coffee shop is located adjacent to the Muizenberg train station. With a counter full of healthy baked treats and delicious sarmies, Kitch Kombuis is designed as a meeting place, greeting place and ‘grab a bite before leaving on the train’ place. Great emphasis is placed on serving excellent coffee and providing light snacks, baked and made by members of the Muizenberg community. Young bakers and pastry chefs deliver fresh snacks daily, while Derek and his assistant whip up excellent coffee and more-ish smoothies.

Enjoy a freshly baked selection of croissants, veg pies, quiches, wraps, gourmet sarmies and sweet pastries from breakfast through to lunch.

Funny thing when a new place opens - suddenly you start hearing its name mentioned by all your friends, or you overhear strangers talking about it. Yeah it's that new coffee shop, you know, close to the False Bay railway station, on the corner of Albertyn Road, where the piano workshop used to be. The sun just pours in through the windows and the coffee is fantastic. Oh and I bought an awesome dining room table for almost nothing. It's crazy how cheap their second-hand furniture is. Some of it has been re-done and turned into comic book artwork, but lots are plain but really spunky. So when...

Having been a Muizenberg resident for many years (now Kalk Bay), I am delighted to have discovered this unique and eclectic little eatery on Valsbaai Station actually, not Muizenberg. Try their incredible rootis, and they serve Lavazza!

A destination eatery must rely on its merits rather than its location to survive, and in this instance Kitch Kombuis can take comfort that all its fundamentals are in place.A simple, wholesome menu offering is complemented by an endless choice of smoothies ("choose any combination of ingredients and I'll make it for you", says Derek), great coffees, teas and confectioneries - all at very fair prices.Everything is be made to eat in or take away, and even the funky furniture and decorations which make up the magic ambience of Kitch Kombuis is for sale.Host and owner Derek Harrison fills the spac...
