Mkhombo Nature Reserve
Mpumalanga
Mkhombo Nature Reserve is a large, 11 000 hectare reserve located next to the Mdala Nature Reserve just a few hours from Pretoria.
The Mkhombo (or Renosterkop) Dam which is fed by the Elands river is an excellent location for angling and is especially well known in the birdwatching community. Some record fish have been caught here, such as bass, carp and barbel. Birds sighted at the dam include the pectoral sandpiper, yellow wagtail, grey plover, barred wren-warbler, and many others. Basic camping facilities are available.
