About Mdumbi River Kayak

Have you ever seen crabs in trees? Rent a kayak from Notshana and catch the tidal flow up this pristine river estuary. You will see kingfishers, legavaans, crabs and fish from your kayak. One of the most spectacular bloom swarms of jellyfish can be during the summer months on the Wild Coast.

So glad we tried this, it must be the best way to explore the river and see the wildlife. Our guides were very friendly and able to answer all our questions. Neither of us had been in a kayak before and Lemos was happy to teach us! We saw kingfishers, fiddler crabs and swarms of jellyfish, amongst other things. He was also very knowledgeable about local life, plants and animals which he was more than happy to tell us about. Definitely something not to miss out on.

We booked an outing on the kayaks, and ended up doing two trips with Notshana. He has first class kayaks which is easy to steer and does not require any experience. Take a trip down the calm river and even see the fish regularly jump over and even into the kayak. We had an amazing experience on the river, found the owls in the trees and came very close to nature. Our guide was very friendly and knows the area well.
