About Tower Bridge

Taking its name from its equally famous neighbor, the Tower of London, London’s iconic Tower Bridge is a combination bascule and suspension bridge spanning the River Thames. Completed in 1894, the bridge contains two towers joined together by two horizontal walkways and the bascule bridge section operating underneath. The bridge's red, white and blue colour scheme dates from Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee in 1977. The closest London Underground station is Tower Hill.
