The upmarket suburb of Llandudno enjoys dazzling views of one of Cape Town's most beautiful beaches. Fringed by giant granite boulders, a few shipwrecks and surrounded by a mountainous amphitheatre, it’s an epic place for picnics, sundowners and some serious chilling in the sunshine.
Llandudno has some excellent surfing – mostly right-hand beach breaks that work best with a southeasterly wind. Swimming is challenge in these icy waters where conditions can get extremely rough. Just around the corner is another gorgeous surf spot, Sandy Bay, known as Cape Town's unofficial nudist and gay beach.
Parking can be problematic over weekends and during the summer holiday season. Be prepared for a long walk to the beach and take plenty to eat and drink – there are no shops at all.
