The beachy suburb of Kommetjie enjoys incredible views of Table Mountain, Chapman’s Peak, the Sentinel and Hout Bay across the ocean. Swimming can be a challenge in the chilly water and dumping waves but the views, beach walks and sunsets more than make up for it. You can walk for miles along the beach from Kommetjie to Noordhoek. Along the way you'll encounter the rusty shipwreck of the Kakapo.

Kommetjie is a surfers' paradise and has some well-known, popular surfing spots that work best with a southeasterly wind. The most frequented are at Long Beach, offering a consistent left and right reef break that is can become crowded.

Amped surfers and body boarders tuck into ‘Krans’, a gnarly hollow beach break that often dishes up a few barrels. Serious big wave surfers paddle out or boat to ride giant waves at the impressive reef break, ‘Sunset’.

On Kommetjie's southwestern side, the elegant Slangkop Lighthouse presides over the rocky coastline. Reef breaks here are ‘The Komm’, 'Boiler' and ‘The Ledge’, haunt of experienced and silver surfers. The far more mellow 'Inner Komm' attracts longboarders and kids.

Holidaying in Kommetjie is a pleasure – you won’t need to travel out of the village for supplies. There’s a post shop and Internet Cafe, pharmacy, deli, petrol station, pubs, surf shop and a number of restaurants.
