Kogelberg Nature Reserve is a massive mountainous area that hugs the False Bay coast all the way from Kleinmond to Grabouw.
The tall mountains are easily seen from the western portion of False Bay on clear days. Travelling from Gordon's Bay you can take the coastal R44 Road which will lead you around the reserve; this is a very scenic route and is highly recommended if you're heading to the Whale Coast.
The most striking feature of this reserve is it's Fynbos; an immensely lush and dense indigenous vegetation that blankets the entire reserve. It's floral diversity is unparalleled anywhere else in the world. Entry into the reserve is strict and most areas are closed off to the public. However there are a few hiking trails that meander through the mountains which you can enjoy. Some adventure companies also operate within the reserve offering extreme white-water rafting and kayaking on the Palmiet River during winter.
