Managed by South African National Parks, the Garden Route National Park offers an awesome selection of things to do and places to stay. The popular Wilderness section extends from the Touw River to the Swartvlei estuary and the Goukamma Nature Reserve.
Tsitsikamma ranges from Storms River to Nature’s Valley and stretches 5 km out to sea, conserving the amazing inter-tidal life, reef and deep-sea fish. The world-renowned Knysna Lake section and various mountains, indigenous forest and fynbos areas are included.
Whales and dolphins are frequently sighted along the coast, particularly from Dolphin Point in Wilderness. Pack your bike or hire a canoe, go abseiling, fishing, diving, canyoning, paragliding or hang gliding. Activities are not only for the mega fit; there are plenty of options for young or old and idle.
Walking trails meander through woodlands and along streams with brightly coloured kingfishers and Knysna louries flitting about. At springtime the mountainsides and verges are splashed with wildflowers. A number of strategically placed bird hides provide hours of interesting bird watching. You could even kick back in a canoe on a quiet river and spend hours drifting along.
