Ezemvelo Nature Reserve
Gauteng
Ezemvelo Nature Reserve is one of Gauteng’s best-kept secrets, offering an exciting wildlife experience in a beautiful landscape. The rolling grasslands, magnificent gorges, wetlands, and rivers are home to numerous animals and over 286 bird species. A network of hiking trails provide a range of routes that vary from a few kilometres to overnight hikes.
Part of the reserve’s appeal is that it offers the opportunity to explore the reserve on foot, mountain bike, and horseback or even in a horse-drawn carriage. The focus is on green and sustainable ecotourism offering conservation awareness, providing visitors an experience in nature through walking trails, horseback safaris, cycling, birding tours and guided game drives.
Less energetic visitors can kick back on guided game drives and tours of the rock art cave. White rhino, leopard, brown hyena, African wildcat, serval, Cape clawless otter, aardvark, giraffe, eland, springbok, kudu, blesbok, porcupine, impala and Burchell’s zebra are just a few of the specialties that guests can look forward to seeing. One of the main attractions is the great diversity of bird species, drawing thousands of birdwatchers to Ezemvelo each year.
