About
Borakalalo National Park
North West Province
Borakalalo Game Reserve is a conservation park located about an hour's drive from Brits in the North West province. The park's central dam, Klipvoor, is an excellent spot for fishing and relaxing. Fishing permits can be purchased at the gate, with carp and barbel as the main species, and sometimes yellowfish.
The 13 000 ha landscape is covered by Kalahari bushveld and woodland. With over 350 species of birds to be seen, including eleven eagles, bird lovers will find this place a paradise. There is also an extensive variety of wildlife roaming the reserve, such as white rhino, jackal, gemsbok, leopard, giraffe, zebra, and other smaller mammals.
Several self-guided hiking trails are spread out through the riverine forest along the banks of Moretele River, or alternatively, one of the guides can walk you on a three-hour journey through the reserve.
During summer the climate is very hot with the most rainfall, and winter tends to be extremely cold.
There is also a camping area on the banks of the Moretele River, which offers self-catering facilities. It is essential to book accommodation in advance as Borakalalo is often fully booked.
