About Stamvrug Hiking Trail
The Stamvrug Hiking Trail is situated within the Bateleur Private Nature Reserve near Bela Bela, which is less than a two-hour drive from Gauteng. The reserve forms part of the UNESCO Waterberg Biosphere Reserve.
Several options are available in the Stamvrug trail suite, from half-day to the two-day backpacking trail. This overnight route runs through the mountains that rim the Bateleur Nature Reserve. The first day is 13 km trek to the hut and the second day is a 7 km walk along the Sebra and Porcupine Trails. Along the route there are some great swimming spots.
Comfortable huts are equipped with bunk beds and mattresses, flush toilets and warm showers, gas stoves and sheltered braai spots with firewood.
