Not far from Stellenbosch is the favourite picnic haunt of outdoor loving families, Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve. Stunning waterfalls and rivers are easily accessible. A number of gentle walking trails meander through pretty mountain fynbos and forest. Assegaaibosch is incorporated into Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, and a visit to both is easily done on the same day. Permits and maps are available from reception.
