Agulhas National Park is situated on the southernmost tip of Africa and boasts a number of exciting things to see, such as the southern right whale, African black oystercatcher, damara tern and Cape platana.
The most popular attraction, the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse and Museum is the second oldest working lighthouse in southern Africa, with 71 steps leading up to the top. In the lighthouse museum you will find remains of ancient stone fish traps used by the Khoisan people. Visitors can also witness many shipwrecks along the Agulhas coastline and showpieces are available for viewing at the Bredasdorp Shipwreck museum.
In the Park there is a diversity of flora and fauna to be seen, such as limestone fynbos, milkwood trees, the Cape Floral Kingdom, as well as Cape fur seals, dolphins, porpoises, sparrow hawks and African olive doves.
Other exciting activities include whale watching, bird watching, swimming, rock and surf angling, art galleries and hiking trails. Rock and deep sea fishing are one of the most popular activities in the area, as the water surrounding the shoreline is very shallow. However, you will need to purchase a fishing permit from the Struisbaai Post Office at the Struisbaai Mall.
The Park itself does not have any facilities, but the surrounding towns of L’Agulhas, Struisbaai and Bredasdorp all have a variety of restaurants, shops, banks, and pubs.
