About Bontle Rest Camp Marakele National Park SANParks

The Marakele National Park in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains, as its Tswana name suggests, has become a "place of sanctuary" for an impressive variety of wildlife due to its location in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa. Contrasting majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys characterise the park.

It's no coincidence that bontle means "beautiful" in Setswana. This pleasant rest camp consists of 36 camp sites with power points, arranged into three clusters with one communal ablution block per cluster.

The rest camp, with its unobstructed views of the unspoiled bush and mountain, is located in close proximity to the Park's main entrance gate.

PLEASE NOTE: the rates are subject to the number of adults and children staying. Quotes will include the 1% Community Levy, but will exclude daily conservation fees, which are to be paid directly to camp on arrival.

We stayed one night in Bontle before Christmas, and had a great time. The view from the campsite is lovely.

We were a bit disappointed by Marakele National Park. Do not go there and expect to drive to see game. Just go there to relax and do nothing in the bush. This is only a place for resting. We drove for three days and saw very little game. We did not see any of the big five in the three days. We decided to go the main viewpoint. It is a amazing view from the top, we had to use a bathroom, there was no sign posted to say that there was one, after a while we did discover one. What they don't tell you, is that the route is one single narrow road with no barriers. We were stuck when a car came from...
