Home to the famous ‘White Lions’, Timbavati Reserve has long basked in the spotlight. Although no white lions have been seen at Timbavati for years, several white lions are regularly seen in other parts of Kruger National Park and they could easily reappear in the Timbavati prides.

Forming part of the greater Kruger National Park, the reserve features 12 luxury tourist lodges and is a convenient five-hour drive from Johannesburg. Kruger National Park lies on the east, Klaserie Nature Reserve and Umbabat Private Nature Reserve are to the north and Thornybush Game Reserve is just west.

With no hindrance of fenced borders, wildlife are able to roam freely between Timbavati and the massive Kruger National Park. Thrilling sightings of lion, elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo, giraffe and even shy leopard and cheetah are regular occurrences. This is definitely one of Africa’s best!

"Timbavati Private Nature Reserve is one of the most special places I have ever visited. The game and accommodation diversity sets it apart for most other reserves that I have been fortunate enough to visit. With a variety of lodges and self-catering camps, each offering something a little different, there really is something for everyone. Most of the lodges work together during game drives which means that you are able to see fantastic sightings and get close to the wide variety of game who call the Timbavati their home. Although you are able to get up close, the rangers and trackers are ever conscious of the animal's best interests and never get too close that the game are unsettled. If you are looking for an authentic African safari experience, I'd highly recommend visiting the reserve."
